CA Mission 2019 - VC inBrazil - San Francisco, Monterey

Overview:

The VC inBrazil Mission to California, which took place between January 28th to the 31st aimed at connecting the Brazilian VC community with international VC investors based in California. Investors' Appetite for Brazil
After an extended period of diminished interest from international investors in Brazil either trigerred by the country's economic recession or fragile political scenario with imminent elections, the overall conclusion is that this phase has passed. International investors were more willing to learn or be updated on the investment scenario in Brazil and talk to local pracitioners to get on the ground insights. The Business Rounds held this year was the largest in terms of investors attendance gathering a total of nine investors between fund managers, corporate investors and traditional LPs. In spite of this growing interest, Brazil and the Latam region still plays a minor role in the interest of the global corporate investor. During GCVI's summit there were much more interest to developed markets and among the emerging, Asia was by far in the top of minds of these investors.

Conclusion
The strategy to connect with one of the principal global gatherings of corporate venturing was the highlight of the mission.  Participating Brazilian firms had the opportunity to connect with a group of highly qualified investors while also being exposed to discussions on global trends in innovation and corporate venturing challenges and opportunities in different segments and markets. Interest from global investors in the sessions dedicated to Latin America held in parallel with other tracks was low. For future editions, the idea is to move away from this format and include more exposure to Brazil in the main sessions of the Summit, where Brazilians will be able to contribute and speak at the same level as other practitioners in the global corporate and venture capital industry.

Comments from participants

"I had the opportunity to generate many important business connections. One of the challenges I believe we faced is that we are still starting in CVC in Brazil."

"The Latam session held on the main stage had more impact than the Latam parallel sessions."

"The program was excellent and the participants well selected. Thank you to the team for your dedication."
